Himes Machine has a broad knowledge of precision
lathe turned tooling for many types of industry.
Our expertise in material types vary from alloy
steels, copper, brass, stainless steel,
plastics, and also finish turning of Heat
treated tool steels. This process is commonly
known as "Hard Turning". The hard turning
process virtually eliminates the need for
cylindrical grinding which is very slow and
cumbersome. Hard turning requires a very "high
End" machine tool and exotic insert tooling to
achieve close tolerance and fine finish. This
marriage of machine tool and tooling make it
possible to achieve part diameter tolerances as
close to .0001" of an inch. Hard turning is
successful in heat treated tool steels as high
as 64 Rockwell c scale. This process is far more
economical and faster than conventional
grinding. |
